Three ingredients. How hard could it be?
Spoiler: it was a disaster.
The night before, I decided to test it out. I didn’t measure, didn’t research, just followed instinct. The result was so bad I almost gave up. And that’s when I realized something basic but powerful: Knowing the ingredients is not the same as understanding the process.
My friend Juan stepped in with the classic ratio:
1 part lime juice
2 parts tequila
1 part triple sec
It worked. It was drinkable. But… just okay.
Then I remembered something we often forget when we think we already know: the scientific method.
Observation: This could definitely be better.
Hypothesis: What if we change the tequila?
Experimentation: Try, fail, adjust, repeat.
Analysis: Compare textures, taste, balance.
Conclusion: The difference is always in the details.
It took 4 or 5 tries to get it just right. I switched to a better tequila, used fresh limes, infused the triple sec with hibiscus, added a drop of golden syrup… And something special happened.
Since then, every time I return to Mallorca, my friends ask for “the hibiscus margarita.”
And just like with customers...
Knowing their pain points isn’t enough either. It’s always worth asking again, listening closely, and going one step further.
When Juan told me “1-2-1,” I repeated it out loud: “1-2-1… What if we upgrade the tequila?”
Rephrasing helped me confirm I understood — and opened the door to improve.
With customers, repeating their request in your own words ensures clarity.
It builds trust. It invites better solutions.
The Takeaway
Whether it’s a cocktail, a product, or a customer solution — don’t settle for “correct.” Ask questions. Test things. Iterate. And when you take that extra time, what’s good becomes unforgettable.
Bonus: Want to try it at home?
